Salt vs. Chlorine System
In reality, both salt and chlorine systems use chlorine (Cl2) to kill bacteria and sanitize your pool. So then what’s the difference between a salt system and a chlorine system?
Salt systems convert dissolved sodium chloride (NaCl) into just the right amount of chlorine, resulting in clean, clear, luxuriously soft water that is less work and less worry for you—and your wallet!
Cost differences between a salt system and a traditional chlorine system are minimal. The upfront equipment costs of a salt system can be a little more.
Depending on the size of your pool, a salt system can cost between $1500 and $2500 more than a chlorine system, but over the life of your pool that cost is saved in buying chlorine and in your time spent testing and adjusting the chemicals.
